BRUCK // WELCOME
What is "Bruck"?
Orkney is a small, somewhat remote island community north of Scotland. As resources in such a community can be both scarce and costly, the Orcadian population has traditionally made an effort to get the most out of any and all materials available to them. Thus, "Bruck" is an Orcadian word that translates as "junk" or "surplus," but in the sense that one person's bruck might be precisely what someone else needs. Until 2017, BBC Radio Orkney ran a weekly show called the Bruck Programme, to which locals could submit their "swaps and appeals": either offering up something they held in surplus, or requesting something they needed. In 2019, I debuted what has been an infrequently released podcast that attempts to honor the spirit of the original Bruck Programme.
In the context of HARDAC, "Bruck" basically amounts to the "miscellaneous stuff about me" section, contrasted with the remainder of the website that focuses upon my professional exploits. Individual sections are highlighted below.
Subsections
About Me: In the event that the remainder of the site doesn't paint enough of a picture, this final page tells you a little bit about me.
Book and Reading Lists: Since childhood, I've been a voracious reader. These pages present the list of books that I own, and my old and current reading lists.
Fitness and Recipes: In these section, I provide my long-term fitness plan, and collected recipes.
General Interests: General interests not covered in any of the other listed sections are consolidated into this page.
Links: In the early days of the Internet, webpage authors included lists of their favorite links. While these have largely disappeared owing to the utility of search engines, most notably Google, some traditions are worth maintaining. Additional links that don't fall into any of the prior categories will be documented here.
